The very first conference dedicated to conservation and improvement of the Macedonian honey bee subspecies (Apis mellifera macedonica) was held on 14th of December 2013 in Skopje, Macedonia. This event was organized by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food in Skopje (University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”) and the association of beekeepers for conservation of Apis mellifera macedonica – MacBee (www.macbee.org). Prof. Ales Gregorc from Slovenia was invited to give a talk on the topic “Discrimination of A. m. carnica and A. m. macedonica population and perspectives for their improvement”, and gave this conference international sound. The conference attracted 214 registered beekeepers, scientists and guests from Macedonia, Turkey, Germany, Bulgaria and Kosovo.
